After making pens for many years my developed methods discharge loyalty dexterously. There have been many iterations of the steps beyond the years. I realize modernize the steps from period to era once a encumbrance occurs. I divide the pen making process into six steps:
Selecting the pen type. It is important to choose the pen in the first instance. The pen type determines the size of the blank and the finish that I will apply to the pen. Selection of the pen blanks. Wood and acrylic (resins) create pleasing pen blanks. In most cases I begin moreover a little log that I graze to blank size once a band saying. Preparing the blanks. Each ended pen has a brass tube which houses the internal components of the pen. The tube is in the center of the blank. I use either gorilla gum or CA gum to paste the tubes into the blanks. Then after curing a square off the ends.
Turning the vacant. I use a midi lathe to approach pens, using both a spindle roughing gouge and a skew chisel to finish the turning.
Finishing the blanks. After sanding the blanks up to 3,000 grit, I apply the finishes. There are many finishes, but I mostly use two (a Using the EEE products for wood auspices and execution considering their friction polish and (b) CA paste finish. The CA fix finish is sanded right through to 12,000 grit using micro mesh strips.
Assembling the pen. The pen in finally assembled using a portable pen assembler.
